Challenges. I like them. And every year as November approaches, I think wistfully about National Novel Writing Month, a challenge to write 50,000 words in one month. And for the past 3 years, I've signed up, written about 3000 words in 3-5 days, and then given up.
The fact is, I'm just not a writer of fiction. I love to read it. I think I know what good writing looks like. But I can't tell a story for the life of me, unless I've experienced it. (And then, I'm not sure how well I do, but nobody's complained so far).
So, I've decided to give myself a different sort of challenge.
For the month of October, I am going to make a project, or part of a larger project, each day and post a photograph. It might be beads, silver, clay, part of a costume, creative food, whatever happens it will be visual, rather than written.
31 projects in 31 days.
• Be respectful and courteous of one another.
• It's only critique if it's ultimately helpful to the poster.
• Treat others as you would like to be treated.
• If you have an issue with the community at large or another member of the community, contact one of the maintainers through LJ messaging.
Does it have to be a project every day?
You don't have to do a single project every day. You can do multiple projects in one day or only one for the month. The only rule is to make some kind of progress every day.
What are the content restrictions?
The only content restrictions are things of a sexual nature, the excessively violent, or nudity. The maintainers understand that different people have different ideas of what is or isn't appropriate, but we feel that these guidelines cover the majority of bases without getting too restricted.
What sort of things can be posted here besides craft projects?
Anything about arts and crafts! Project ideas, site recommendations, a plea for help! You name it, you can post it.
Do we have to start on the 1st of October?
No. You can start anytime during October, but you have to do a consecutive thirty-one days of progress and picture-posting on your chosen project(s). No, the maintainers won't be breathing down your neck about this, but that is the spirit of the challenge!
Do we even have to do this in October?
No. You can do this any time of the year you'd like. We just named October as the "official" month for NaCraMaMo because it's when we're opening our doors to the public.
Who are the brains behind this operation?
